Think. Create. Engineer.
Celebrating Golden Jubilee Edition.

Why Engineer?

“To the pessimist the glass is half empty. To the optimist the glass is half full. To the engineer, the glass is simply working at half capacity!”

Albert Einstein once famously quoted, “Scientists investigate that which already is; Engineers create that which has never been.”

Going by the words of perhaps the greatest scientist the world has ever seen, need we say more?

Engineering is not merely the possession of technical knowledge. It is more than just the ability to devise elegant solutions to worldly problems. It is an all-inclusive and all-pervasive thing; a science with an ideological scope and impact so profound that no words may define, and hope to do justice to, the ideal called engineering.

Elusive though a befitting definition of engineering may be, every year at NITK Surathkal, we get together to celebrate its spirit, to uncover, discover and appreciate the joys of being an Engineer. We revel in the delight that the products of our own intellectual prowess are wont to provide, and above all, we remind ourselves of, and take pride in the fact that, we are all Engineers.

4000 students, 120 colleges, 60 companies, 45 events, 4 days culminate into one momentous occasion – Engineer. With every passing year, the fest only grows bigger and better. A sincere and passionate attempt to reinstate in students the love for learning, it seeks to reignite the innovative spark that resides within each one of us.

Isn’t it thus appropriate that the tagline of the fest reads Think. Create. Engineer?

If you were a gourmet, Engineer would be your ideal “all-you-can-eat” buffet of epicurean delights. The plethora of contests held at Engineer span the entire gamut of Engineering, from the digital world of the Electronics engineer and the virtual world of the software geek, to the inventive ways of the mech–o-maniac and the rickety rackets of the metallurgist. The fest even has the humanitarian touch in the form of Socially Conscious Engineering.

But, is a fest about contests alone? Surely not! The technical conferences and guest lectures that form an integral part of Engineer are so exclusive and relevant that anyone who appreciates achievement and innovation would not think of ever giving one of these a miss.

One of the highlights of the fest, and its climax, The Last Word is a panel discussion that reminds us of the importance of intellectual debate in the study of engineering. For those of you who think a technical fest can be nothing but boring, we offer you our pièce de résistance – Technites – the perfect blend of technology and fun!

With a lip-smacking line-up over the duration of the entire four days, the only part of you left unsatisfied will be your appetite for more!

Being an Engineer

The essence of being an Engineer does not lie in the ability to fill the gaps in existing technology; it lies instead in the art of original thinking, in creating new avenues as yet unexplored. It is this spark of inspiration that converts an idea, through the aid of science to a plan on paper and later to working reality. In tribute to this all important aspect of engineering we celebrate Engineer, the technical symposium of National Institute Of Technology Karnataka, Surathkal.

Think. Create. Engineer

Think. Create. Engineer

Over four action filled days of technical contests, inspiring lectures, insightful and informative seminars and many more exciting activities, we live the spirit of an Engineer, of innovation and enquiry, where technology meets art and science. This year’s fest promises to live upto the lofty principles it stands for and presents an extraordinary opportunity for all young technologists to discover the Engineer within themselves. Join us, as we embark on this journey, to Think. Create. Engineer.
