Rapid Prototyping to Manufacturing
Event Introduction
From Formula 1 Cars to Aircrafts

This is a workshop to be lectured Dr.U.Chandrashekar, who is the Group Director at Gas Turbine Research Establishment, DRDO, Bangalore. He has 22 Years of experience in Stress Analysis, Material Testing, Reverse Engineering, CAD and Rapid Prototyping He has also worked as Coordinator of National 10th Plan Metal Prototyping Project with a budgetary outlay of Rupees 10.25 crores. He is specailised in the design and development of aero gas turbine engines with extensive expertise in the following -
- Design evaluation and stress analysis of aero engine components
- Computer aided design and stereolithography based modelling of aero engine sub-sytems
- Non-contact laser based scanning for re-engineering and quality control of fan and compressor blades.
- Design optimization through Taguchi´s techniques.
- Rapid prototyping and assembly integration of aero engine casings
Event Format
This lecture outlines how the impact of digital technologies have influence the traditional prototyping and manufacturing practices in a wide gamut of industries, with concomitant positive impact of time-compression. This lecture would encapsulate the operational principles of a host RP processes including direct metal prototyping. The salient feature of the lecture is to delineate the influence of Rapid Prototyping over the traditional practices ranging from design of aircraft structures, casting of complex art objects, repair of damaged impellers, development of formula 1 cars, custom manufacturing of surgical implants etc.
