Event Introduction

In the backdrop of the growing awareness on climate change, the students of NITK have taken up an initiative over the past few editions of our technical extravaganza, ENGINEER to “go green”. The Golden Jubilee edition of ENGINEER will see renewed vigor on the part of participants to do their bit for the environment and ensure that our future will be bright, clean and green. We intend to generate awareness and enthusiasm amongst our peers to address issues of sustainable technologies and development.

From the time of its inception Engineer has realized that as future engineers it is our duty and responsibility to ensure the preservation and sustainable development of our environment. This being our philosophy, we have been host to many events aimed at inculcating a sense of conscientiousness in budding engineers towards the impact of their actions on our beautiful planet and everything that we hold dear to it. Some such initiatives that have been the highlights of previous editions of Engineer are as follows:

• Guest Lectures: A series of eye opening talks and presentations by eminent environmentalists and experts to answer all questions about the preservation of our planet.
• Documentary Screening: Documentaries dealing with select environmental themes screened throughout the duration of Engineer.
• Green Engi Nuggets: Short video clips played throughout Engineer aimed to remind everyone that no matter where we go or who we are, our primary duty is to keep our planet clean and green.
• Plant-a-tree Drive: All guest lecturers and prominent persons attending Engineer, plant saplings across the length of our campus. Furthermore this gives students an opportunity to interact with these great minds.
• Green Innovators: A platform for inventors to show case their energy saving / environment friendly inventions.
• Clean-NITK Drive: An initiative of Engineer to make our campus a litter-free zone.

Carrying forward the baton from the previous editions of Engineer, Engineer Golden Jubilee promises to take Green Engineer to a whole new level by launching a host of new initiatives. Based on the foundations of our previous, successful efforts and with the intention of becoming a massive movement, this year Green Engineer brings to you the following:

• Green Expo: A platform for companies to showcase their efforts towards a clean and green environment.
• Green Screens: Screening of documentaries on environmental themes throughout the day on all four days of Engineer.
• Green Walk: A walk across the campus spreading awareness on the impact that our actions have on the planet that we call the mother Earth.
• Green Merchandise: A way for everyone to show their solidarity towards preserving nature, and supporting our actions by spreading a Green message wherever they go.
• What Was, What is, And What Will Be:Keeping in sync with the theme of Engineer – Golden Jubilee, a series of lectures by eminent persons in the field of Climate Change addressing the reasons and impacts of the present climatic changes and what we can do to preserve our planet as we know it.
• Green Poll: An opinion poll to evaluate participants' concern for burning issues like climate change.
