Problem Statement

The world suffers profoundly from natural disasters causing various degrees of destruction. Floods, droughts, landslides, hurricanes, earthquakes, tsunami, climatic changes and other natural calamities have left several parts of the world in a devastated state. The governments and the NGOs play an important role in the rescue and relief efforts post such calamities. But the social and economic insecurity that haunts the affected inhabitants are hardly tackled efficiently.

You are a [1]social entrepreneur concerned about this situation. With your knowledge and leadership skills you decide to address this issue by introducing a feasible entrepreneurial venture in the affected area. The venture must include the inhabitants of the area and respect their land and traditions. You can choose any real region [village/town] in the country of which you are a citizen. The region should have been affected by a natural catastrophe in the last 10 years.

In your write-up you must clearly mention -

  • The location of the disaster affected region and its features [you can attach a map of the region if available]
  • Description of the natural calamity.
  • Effects of the natural calamity on the resources of the region, its economy, lives and livelihood of the people (participants could make some logical assumptions here if sufficient data is not available).
  • The new entrepreneurial venture which you intend to introduce for the economic revival of the affected region.
  • Implementation details of your idea including [2]capital investment, resources used and the approximate time required.
  • The overall socio-economic impact of the venture.
  • The sources of facts and figures that you collected on the region.
